Zayed Khan recalls son Zidaan’s harrowing near-death experience in London at 3

Bollywood actor Zayed Khan, known for his role in Farah Khan’s Main Hoon Na, revealed the harrowing experience surrounding his elder son Zidaan’s near-fatal respiratory issue when he was just three years old. The incident occurred while the family was in London, where Zidaan faced severe difficulty in breathing.
“My elder son Zidaan had a very big respiratory problem at the age of 3. We were in London when he had a particularly bad attack. He came to me and said, ‘Papa help me, I can’t breathe,'” Zayed recalled while talking to actor Amrita Rao on her YouTube channel Couple of Things.
Zayed’s wife Malaika Parekh, who the actor said is “very strong” in handling medical emergencies, immediately called an ambulance, which arrived in 15 minutes. “It was a life-and-death situation,” the 44-year-old actor recalled.

After reaching the hospital, Zayed had to endure the agonising sight of his child in pain. “The nurse nodded at us, indicating that he wasn’t sure if Zidaan would survive. He took out an adrenaline injection and asked for my permission to inject it into Zidaan. I have to credit the healthcare system in London—they immediately called four doctors from all over the city to the hospital,” the actor narrated.
He added, “They were prepared to do surgery, where they would have had to cut his throat if the steroids didn’t work. We were in so much agony because there is nothing worse than the thought of losing a child. Thankfully, after a couple of hours, the steroids started working, and they didn’t need to proceed with the surgery.”
Following the incident, the doctors warned that Zidaan wouldn’t be able to lead a healthy life. But Zayed made sure that his son participated in all outdoor activities. Eventually, Zidaan overcame the situation, and Zayed now finds him to be the fittest child with a “fantastic body.”
However, what happened in London was not the only time Zayed and Malaika had to see their son in pain. From the age of 5 to 15, Zidaan had to be admitted to the ICU multiple times. Seeing his child suffer pushed Zayed Khan into depression.
“I went through a lot of depression at that time. I prayed to God, ‘You can’t do this to him. Take me but don’t do this to him.’ It felt so unfair for a kid to go through this,” Zayed told Amrita.
Zayed, son of actor-filmmaker Sanjay Khan and brother of Sussanne Khan, married Malaika Parekh in 2005. He became a parent to son Zidaan in 2008. The couple welcomed their second son, Ariz, in 2011.
